One day, Sonny says, "Those peanut butter sandwiches that you pack for my school lunch ...I haven't been eating them. I've been throwing them all in the fireplace."
Max realizes, "Well, that explains the recent invasion of ants. I couldn't figure out why they suddenly appeared, nor could I figure out where they were coming from."
That night, in bed, Mabel reassures, "I'm happy the way you handled our son today. I was getting to my wits end, having to deal with those pesky ants. I'm glad that problem was solved."
The following day, Max is puzzled, "I can't figure it out, Mabel."
Mabel asks, "Figure what out, Max?"
Max scratches his head, "Well, I thoroughly cleaned all the peanut butter sandwiches out of the fireplace, but the ants haven't relented."
Mabel smiles, "Well, might as well not get too antsy about it. My uncle, Ben, is expecting us for dinner ...the ants can wait."
During dinner, Sonny, eats three turkey sandwiches.
Mabel delights, "Sonny, I didn't know you liked turkey sandwiches so much. You're going to grow up to be a big healthy young man."
When they arrive home, they see Sonny off to bed. Mabel points something out to Max. A line of ants are marching straight for the fireplace. Max looks inside, and discovers another peanut butter sandwich. As he retrieves it, Mabel declares, "I thought you said you cleaned it out real good."
Max admits, "I guess I didn't do as good as I thought I did."
Mabel nods, "I guess not!"
Max adds, "How about making a turkey sandwich for Sonny's lunch tomorrow. You saw the way he ate them at your uncle's place. I didn't know he didn't like peanut butter ...but assuredly, he really likes turkey."
The next evening, they find a turkey sandwich in the fireplace ...and the following day also.
Max finally gets around to asking, "Sonny, I thought you liked turkey sandwiches ...but we can't figure out why you keep putting them in the fireplace."
Sonny smiles, "I like it when the kids at school feel sorry for me ...when they see you don't give me a lunch. Then they all give me something."
Some of you would say .....you'd like to give him something too!! I'm hoping most of you saw the wrong in all this, early on. Where do we begin??
If there is no acknowledgment of wrong, then there can be no path for correcting it ...and, I beg to ask, how then can repentance exist??
